The Art of Biking in the Rain

Happy Fall!

Many mornings lately, we've concluded our daily holy hour in front of the Blessed Sacrament only to find that the world outside has been transformed into a drizzly landscape, with drenched roads and grayed skies. These surprise rain showers certainly make for some interesting bike-rides around town (hence the title of this post)!

God's great works through this ministry continue to abound. I feel so lucky to be a part of such a beautiful and rewarding mission, and cannot believe that this is what I get to do with my life for the next 2+ years! What a blessing!

Lately, I've greatly enjoyed connecting more deeply with the women in my freshmen small groups. Every day, I spend intentional time individually or in smaller groups with these young women, getting to know them better and just having fun! Last week, one girl and I went down to Lake Winona and did stand-up kayaking on the lake--definitely something I had never done before, but it was quite the exciting experience! Lake Winona has a boat house that rents out kayaks and canoes for free for people to enjoy on the beautiful lake!

Other highlights these past two weeks include: making a spaghetti dinner for almost my entire Thursday night Women's Small Group, having a few girls over to bake molasses cookies in celebration of fall, visiting the Lakeview Drive-In three days in a row before it closed for the season, and playing a large game of Capture the Flag on Friday night in the middle of the WSU campus. It warms my heart to spend time with these students and see God moving in their lives through the relationships they're forming with one another. It truly exemplifies the message we heard from St. Paul in yesterday's second reading at Mass (Philippians 2:1-5)

"Brothers and sisters:
If there is any encouragement in Christ,
any solace in love,
any participation in the Spirit,
any compassion and mercy,
complete my joy by being of the same mind, with the same love,
united in heart, thinking one thing.
Do nothing out of selfishness or out of vainglory;
rather, humbly regard others as more important than yourselves,
each looking out not for his own interests,
but also for those of others.

Have in you the same attitude
that is also in Christ Jesus."

Thank you all for your prayers and support in making moments like these happen!

God Bless,
Emily
